New Home at UNB - January, 2012
We're all moved in to our new home at the University of New Brunswick. Our new dojo is in the LB Gym. Just walk in the main doors and take the stairs to your right. Our new dojo is in what used to be a dance studio. That means we have plenty of mirrors and a great, non-slippery floor to train on.
Please check our information pages for our fees and schedule. Discounts are available for UNB students, faculty, and staff. We hope to see you soon!

KNB Tournament - November 5th, Dieppe
On the 5th of November, Karate New Brunswick will be hosting a tournament in Dieppe. We are hoping to make this tournament a club-wide event, with everyone attending. Nobody will be required to compete in either kata or kumite, but everyone is encouraged to if they wish. The goal is for all students to come and see some kata and sparring at different skill levels, ranging from beginner through to black belt. We hope that this will inspire our students and bring the group together as a team. Everyone is encouraged to bring along a lunch and some snacks and cheer on their fellow karate students. Please see one of the instructors if you have any questions.
Visit to the Scottsdale Martial Arts Center - April, 2011
Recently I was sent to work at Arizona State University in the Phoenix metropolitan area for a couple of weeks. During that visit I was lucky enough to be able to visit another Wado club in the nearby city of Scottsdale.
The Scottsdale Martial Arts Center is run by Sensei Ray Hughes, seen in the photo to the left. He has been practicing Wado karate for going on thirty years. On my visit to his club, ~200 members large, I was able to take part in one of his classes. It was a busy class full of kata, kihon waza, and knife self defense. The warm-up only took a few minutes because the desert is very hot, even in April. Sensei Hughes was a great host, sharing technical advice and some of his karate philosophy. I'd like to thank Sensei Hughes and the rest of his dojo for welcoming me into their club. The following photograph shows some of the younger students practicing their knife defense.

Upcoming events - Spring, 2011
Summer is just around the corner and to celebrate we're having an end-of-year tournament. All students are invited to participate in both kata and kumite. It's a great way to practice your skills and have some fun. Congratulations to our new crop of red belts. All of the former orange belts have passed their gradings.
